Happy New Year!

I took a little holiday break from the blog...but no break was taken from training! I've kept up my gradual increase of exercise. And I'm happy to report I bought a bike! The bike shop is putting it together and I pick it up tomorrow morning. Woo hoo! Finally...I can give up those miserable stationary bike rides and actually pedal somewhere. It's a fancy little road bike with aerobars, which apparently I'll need in the triathlon. The bike shop people thought I was silly because I haven't been on a real, moving bicycle since middle school. And I've never ridden one that requires switching gears. But alas, I will test my cycling mettle tomorrow. We shall see if I can really get through the 25 miles of this race.
But the swimming and running are going quite well. I made it through an easy 1500m (a little less than a mile) in the pool Sunday. And this morning, I managed to wake my butt up and go for a team swim of about 2000m in Georgetown. Surprisingly, I managed to lap most of the seven people in my lane -- including nearly all the men. My competitive drive is kicking in!
